What is the minimum age for being operated on?

You must be at least 18 years old, as the myopia must have stabilised.

How much does the Laser-Lasik procedure cost?

The prices vary with the degree of disorder to be corrected and the technique used.

How long does a Laser-Lasik procedure last?

From the cutting of the cornea with a femtosecond laser to the end of the Excimer laser treatment and takes only about 15 minutes for both eyes.

How long will I have to stay at the Victor Hugo Laser Center?

About one hour. As vision is blurred for about three to four hours, it is better to have someone come fetch you at the centre.

Is it painful?

At most the patient will feel a passing sensation of pressure. The pupil separator may be uncomfortable during the procedure.

Is the patient put to sleep?

No, a pure local anaesthesia is administered in the form of drops of very powerful collyre one to two minutes before the procedure. This numbs the cornea completely.

How long does it take for vision to stabilise?

One month, but a normal professional and social life is possible after a few days of rest.

What are the undesirable side-effects?

Mainly poor nocturnal vision, with visions of halos around artificial lights. These effects are seen mainly in the treatment of serious myopia or hypermetropia and tend to disappear after a few months. Preventative collyre treatment helps prevent undesirable post-operatory effects.

Am I a good candidate for refractive surgery?

A pre-operatory examination is required to measure your visual defect, to see if there is any counter-indication and to determine the most suitable technique.

Is the cost of the procedure reimbursed by the French national health system?

No, the procedure is not reimbursed by the French national health system (Sécurité Sociale), which considers it to be “life-enhancing” surgery. However, an increasing number of supplemental health plans reimburse a variable amount for this type of procedure.

Are there any risks involved?

Risks cannot be ruled out completely, and complications are possible, but they are truly exceptional.
